Bellows Larynx
Design and Construction: Dr. PERI FONTAA
The bellows larynx reproduces the sphincter behavior of the larynx
The larynx acts as a sphincter: it is widely open during ventilation, tightly closed during swallowing. During phonation and efforts with closed glottis, its closure level is intermediate.
With the bellows larynx, one can independently open or close the vocal cords, ventricular bands, and epiglottis.
The bellows larynx reproduces the stretching possibilities of the larynx
The larynx behaves like a spring: it can be stretched or compressed. Its folding capabilities allow the larynx to perform swallowing, efforts with closed glottis, phonation, and respiration functions.
With the bellows larynx, one can visualize the stretching of the larynx with the flattening of its folds, its compression with the reduction of the laryngeal lumen, as it occurs in the reality of laryngeal functioning.
